As soon as I saw the new Noir Interdit Mascara* by Givenchy I was super intrigued. The brush on this bends to a 90° angle, which allows you to easily reach every single lash from root to tip. I have never tried anything like this, so I was really curious to see if it worked or not. Did this added feature live up to the hype? Keep on reading to find out what I thought!
First off, I have to mention how luxurious the Noir Interdit Mascara* feels. The packaging itself is so beautiful and elegant and the mascara is actually perfumed, which I was worried would bother my eyes, but luckily I haven’t had any irritation. Obviously, a perfumed mascara has no real benefits other than the fact it adds to the luxuriousness of a high-end mascara, but it’s a really nice added touch when using it. I don’t know how to describe the scent of it—a lot of people have said it smells like roses, but to me, I am not getting strong floral notes in this. Whatever it is, it smells intoxicating without being overwhelming.
Now, onto how this beautiful mascara actually performs. The formula itself is the perfect consistency for me—not too wet, but not too dry and I have had no problems with smudging or flaking. For best results, I followed the steps that Givenchy’s Makeup Artist Director, Nicolas Degennes, suggests by starting off with the wand bent and applying it in an upwards zig zag motion to help separate and define the lashes. Then I unbend the brush and go back in to build it up more.
I love the flexible comb on this, as it easily hugs the lashes from root to tip and allows the mascara to go on completely clump-free. Having the wand bend to the 90° angle (which you simply do by gently bending the wand as you pull it out of the tube) allows for a ton of precision and helps fan out my lashes. It also made it a breeze to reach those tricky lashes and the bent wand also made it so easy to apply this on my bottom lashes—even easier than my beloved tapered mascara wands. The only negative I really have is that I had a hard time building this up in order to give my thin lashes more noticeable volume, but otherwise—I’m pretty smitten with it.
Overall, this is a pretty wonderful, high-end mascara. A huge thank you to CBB and Givenchy Beauty for allowing me to test out and review the new Noir Interdit Mascara*! This mascara retails for $38.00 and is sold exclusively at Sephora.
