Haircare | 5 Under $5

Welcome back to my ‘5 Under $5’ series! This is the second instalment of my four part series and today I will be covering haircare. If you missed my first ‘5 Under $5’ post, which was dedicated to skincare, you can give that a read here.

All of the hair products that I use are very affordable, as there are so many amazing options at your local drugstore or supermarket. That being said, there are not a lot of hair products that I have tried and loved for under $5. However, these 5 products are really great not only in terms of price, but also performance:

Dove Refresh + Care Invigorating Dry Shampoo – $4.30

Though Batiste and COLAB are still my go-to dry shampoos, for under $5 this one by Dove is a great option. This has that typical laundry smell I find all Dove products have, which I absolutely love. It helps absorb oil and leaves your roots looking cleansed and refreshed. I do wish this gave my hair more volume like other dry shampoos, but if you are someone who naturally has a lot of volume in their hair then this could be a great option for you. It also does not leave any white residue making it a great for darker hair.

Pantene Maximum Hold Hairspray – $4.00

I bought this hairspray on a whim for Halloween and thought it would just sit under my sink after that, but I use this stuff almost everyday. It offers 24 hour humidity resistance and gives my hair a ton of hold without making it feel really crispy and sticky. It holds my curls in place all day long and helps smooth any flyaways and baby hairs when I wear my hair up. This smells great like all Pantene products and the mist on this is fine and distributes evenly. And of course, you cannot beat the price for the amount of product you get.

Pantene 3 Minute Miracle Repair & Protect Deep Conditioner – $4.50

This is a new product I have been trying, but I have really been enjoying this so far. They have quite a few different options in their 3 Minute Miracle range, but I went with this one, which is designed for damaged and weak hair. I love the thick consistency of deep conditioners and this leaves my hair feeling so much more smooth and soft. I also love the scent of this, as it has this sweet and subtle candy scent to it that smells so delicious.

Palmer’s Olive Oil Deep Conditioner – $3.00

Anyone who knows me knows I love my Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Body Lotion, but their hair products are also amazing and they are free from sulfates and parabens. This deep conditioner contains extra virgin olive oil, which is an excellent source of antioxidants, as well as the protein keratin. These two ingredients work together to penetrate the hair and help restore moisture and strengthen weak, brittle hair. I let this sit in my hair for a good ten minutes or so and my hair looks and feels so much more healthy. If your hair is prone to breakage definitely give this a try.

Herbal Essences Tea-Lightfully Clean Refreshing Shampoo – $3.50

There are so many shampoos you can find for under $5, but because I have been loyal to my Live Clean Shampoos for years I haven’t tried many of them (Live Clean is also very affordable, but a little over $5). However, one I have tried recently and really enjoyed is this Herbal Essences one with tea tree oil. This smells like apples, which is one of my favourite scents, but as you lather it up it becomes more minty in smell. This helps to stimulate the scalp and purify the hair and the slight tingling sensation I get when I use this feels really invigorating and refreshing. This is such a lightweight shampoo with 0% heavy buildup and leaves your hair feeling great.
