Okay, so some exciting news! I am pretty sporadic in terms of when I blog, but starting in June I will be blogging three days a week! I am going to be posting every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday around 5pm EDT, though days and time could change as I try to find a schedule that works for me. So, for anyone who regularly reads my blog I hope you are excited to start having regular content on here!
Today, I want to run through the alphabet in regards to my favourite products. I have seen other bloggers do posts like these, and I thought it would be something fun to do. I have assigned a specific product that I know and love to each letter of the alphabet and I was adamant in making sure I had something for all 26 letters. Warning: this is a long post, so get comfortable!
Avène Thermal Spring Water Of course, I had to include my favourite water in a can (I say that lovingly). This has become such a staple in my skincare routine and I love how multipurpose it is. I use this first thing in the morning to wake up my skin, as it is so cooling and refreshing and it helps calm any redness in my skin. It is also great for soothing a sunburn or any skin irritations.
bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream in ‘Vanilla’ I had trouble trying to choose between this or my equally loved Boscia B.B. Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 27, as both are fabulous. However, I ended up choosing the bareMinerals cream for two reasons: one it gives my skin this incredible radiance that looks completely natural. And two because it is a little cheaper than the Boscia one.
Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+ I have tried a ton of different moisturizers over the years and I always seem to come back to this one. This balances out my skin wonderfully by eliminating any dryness without making my skin more oily. My skin is hydrated all day long and this lightweight lotion wears great under makeup—any foundation and concealer just seems to glide right over this.
Degree Dry Protection I don’t tend to talk about deodorant on my blog, but for this letter this was the only product I could think of that I regularly use and like. I’m still looking for a natural deodorant that works, but until then I switch between this and Secret. This stuff works all day long to keep you dry and smelling fresh. Even after an intense workout this stuff is still performing, so I don’t need to rush to reapply this afterwards in fear of starting to smell.
e.l.f. Tone Correcting Powder I have talked about this powder countless times on my blog and I have lost count how many of these I have gone through. For only $4, you really cannot beat this pressed powder. It sets my makeup without looking too powdery on the skin and really helps to neutralize any skin problems. It is also my go-to for ‘no makeup’ days, as it helps even out my skin tone despite having no colour.
Freeman Pomegranate Sugar Body Scrub I have been in denial about this for ages, but I’m coming to terms that this product really has been discontinued. However, it is still getting a honourable mention on here. I have yet to find an affordable, everyday body scrub that is as effective as this one. The sugar easily and gently exfoliated my skin and left my arms and legs smooth and soft. The pomegranate scent was also amazing—sweet and juicy.
Guerlain L’Or Radiance Concentrate with Pure Gold When it comes to primers, it doesn’t get much more luxury than this. This product contains pure 24-carat gold flakes that are suspended in a gel that work together to smooth over the skin, tightening it and leaving you with a more radiant complexion. I use this product sparingly, as it is very expensive, and I tend to reserve this for special occasions, but you luckily don’t need to use a lot in order for it to work.
Hanae Mori Butterfly Eau de Parfum This is still my all time favourite fragrance that I never tire of. It’s such a beautiful and elegant fragrance that just smells so classy and feminine. There’s so many wonderful layers to this fragrance that you really need to smell it yourself, but for a more in-depth description you can read this post of mine. I do find this perfume is getting harder to get a hold of here in Canada, which is a shame.
Illamasqua Matte Veil If you want to rid your skin of any oil and ensure your makeup stays in place and shine-free, this does exactly that. My skin feels so soft after applying this and it keeps your makeup from budging even after a long day during the summer months. It almost feels more like a skincare product in regards to texture and performance, as it helps to retain moisture, so even though it is mattifying it is not drying.
JOESCRUB Coffee Body & Face Mask I may not drink coffee, but I absolutely swear by it in regards to skincare. Since I started using this scrub, my skin has improved immensely. The grittiness of this scrub eliminates any bumps on my arms and legs and it also gets rid of any pesky blemish I may get on my chest or back. The coffee also acts as a stimulant to help the skin detoxify and has lessen the appearance of cellulite on the back of my legs. It’s pretty messy to use, but all the benefits from using this 100% natural, handmade scrub is totally worth it.
Live Clean Exotic Silk Keratin Oil Thermal Protective Spray It seems that I don’t use any brands that start with a ‘K’, but I do love keratin oil and this is such a good heat protector if you are looking for one that is cruelty-free. Keratin oil helps with breakage, which is exactly what you need when you are heat styling. This stuff not only protects my hair, but it also leaves it shiny and soft even after styling. I do wish the nozzle on this sprayed better, but that’s really the only negative.
Live Clean Shampoos & Conditioners I have been using these shampoos and conditioners for over five years and they really have helped transform my hair and get it healthy again. They also contain no nasty ingredients, which I firmly believe is what has helped my hair and scalp. The entire range is amazing, but my favourites would probably have to be the Weightless Water Hydrating S&C, the Apple Cider Clarifying Shampoo and their newest release, the Biotin Extra Volume.
Maybelline Line Stiletto Ultimate Precision Liquid Eyeliner There are a ton of great liquid liners on the market, but this guy has still managed to impress me the most. It’s easy to use and the formula is very black and pigmented. However, what I like best about this eyeliner is the fact that despite having this for years—not hygienic at all, I know—it never dried out and always remained the same in regards to pigmentation since the first day I used it. Pretty impressive I must say.
NARS Cosmetics I was trying not to dedicate an entire brand to a letter, but NARS is one of my favourite high-end brands and it was too hard to choose just one product from their collection. Their products are so dreamy and everything I have tried is high-performing and incredible. Some of my favourites include the NARS Lipstick in ‘Dolce Vita’ (best shade ever), NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder (so good for pictures) and of course, the cult classic NARS Blush in ‘Orgasm’.
Origins High-Potency Night-A-Mins Oil-Free Renewal Cream A night cream that gives you instant results. This product works for all skin types and helps to battle dullness, dryness, fine lines and uneven texture thanks to a cocktail of vitamins and minerals. Anytime my skin is looking dull and dehydrated I will apply this before bed and I wake up looking fresh faced and my skin just looks much more nourished and radiant. For the results I get from using this, it is definitely worth the splurge.
Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Body Lotion I have been using this body lotion for years and years and it is still my absolute favourite. This is such a rich and nourishing body lotion that sinks quickly into the skin and leaves you with soft, smooth skin that smells like hot chocolate. Cocoa butter is such an amazing ingredient and it has greatly helped in evening out my skin tone and I love using this after shaving. This is one of my (not so) secret weapons for beautiful skin.
Nivea Q10plus Anti-Wrinkle Replenishing Pearls I have really been enjoying everything I have tried in the Q10plus range, but this serum is the definite standout. I love that the pearl technology means the product does not activate until you use it, as it really makes this product more powerful in regards to performance. My skin looks so much more smooth and refined using this and I like to think it really has slightly reduced the appearance of some of my fine lines.
Real Techniques Expert Face Brush I am such a fan of Real Techniques, but if I had to pick one brush to rule them all, it would definitely be the Expert Face Brush. This brush makes even the most difficult face products a breeze to apply and blend into the skin. The dense brush allows you to easily buff products into the skin without wasting product and I just cannot rave about this brush enough. Real Techniques’s brushes are also synthetic and cruelty-free.
Sephora Long Lasting Kohl Pencil in ‘Deep Brown’ This is just your basic brown eyeliner, but it really is my favourite and it would feel like a betrayal not to include it. Also, how dramatic do I sound about a bloody eyeliner? In all seriousness, I just love how easy this is to apply, as it does not tug on the delicate eye area and I can smudge this out or leave it be and it won’t budge all day. It’s the perfect brown and also compliments my eye colour really well.
The Body Shop Hemp Hard-Working Hand Protector I love a lot of products from The Body Shop, but this heavy duty hand cream is definitely one of my favourites by them. Community Trade hemp seed oil helps to not only soften your hands, but it also protects them as well and letting this sink into your hands overnight really makes a difference by the morning. My dad has ‘hard-working’ hands and cannot use a lot of hand creams because of how sensitive his hands are, but he also loves this product.
Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette I love everything about this palette—from the gorgeous packaging and the pigmentation of the shadows to the double-ended brush that it comes with. I love the mix of neutral and smoky shades that all compliment one another perfectly, as well as the variety of mattes, satins and shimmers in here. I am not the best at eye shadow, but this has gotten me back into playing and practicing with eye shadow again. Also, did I mention I managed to score this palette for only $13 at Sephora?
Vasanti Wonders of the World Colour Correcting Concealer Duo This 3-in-1 concealer duo corrects any discolouration around my eye area, easily covers dark circles and the built in primer means it stays in place all day without caking or creasing. The formula also makes it excellent for helping me hide any spots and I love that I can mix the two concealers together to achieve the perfect shade. I haven’t tried this since they repackaged it, so I am hoping the formula is still the same for these.
White Barn 3-Wick Candles Not technically a beauty product, but I am a huge fan of these candles at Bath and Body Works. I find a lot of Bath and Body Works candles are too heavily fragranced and often give me a headache, but the White Barn ones are really nice and the scents are almost always spot on. They burn evenly and slowly and fragrance a room without being overpowering. These also always go on sale making them really affordable.
Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Nail Color in ‘Lacey Lilac’ Going off the ‘Xtreme’ in order to assign a product to this tricky letter is one of my favourite nail polishes. I love how lilac looks on nails and this is my perfect lilac shade. On top of that, the formula of these polishes are incredible. This shade is completely opaque in just two coats, it dries quickly and with a top coat I can get quite a few days out of this until it starts to chip.
YSL Rouge Volupté Shine Oil-In-Stick Lipsticks If I am going to spend $42 on a lipstick then I want it to look expensive and these YSL ones give you just that. They are housed in the most stunning gold packaging and the formula of these are just as beautiful as their exterior. Since these are oil-infused they are not like your typical lipstick, as they wear like a balm/gloss hybrid and offer medium (but buildable) pigmentation. Because these are so hydrating and nourishing, they feel really comfortable on the lips and wear well.
Zoella Beauty Wonder Hand Moisturizing Hand Cream Though this is nowhere near as intense at the The Body Shop hand cream mentioned earlier, this is still such a great hand cream for everyday. Along with the cute, whimsical packaging, I love the delicate and feminine scent of this, as it is light and not overpowering. This stuff is non-greasy and helps ease any tightness I get in my hands throughout the day.
I hope you enjoyed this post and let me know if any of the products mentioned are also your favourite!
I would also love to know if there are any specific posts you would like to see on the blog in the future.
See you on Sunday for a new blogpost!
