I think I can speak for most people when I say no one likes hearing the you look really tired today line. And that’s because chances are if I look really tired it’s because I am really tired, probably a little stressed and overwhelmed too, and now I’m a tad annoyed on top of all that thanks to you stating the obvious.
All joking aside, if you are looking for some skincare and beauty products that can help mask the look and feeling of running on zero sleep and a lot of caffeine, then this post is for you. Here are my recommendations for products that can help you fake looking awake.
Avène Thermal Spring Water This is such a refreshing product to use first thing in the morning to help perk up and awaken the skin. And because the water used is captured directly at the source, it means it stays pure and uncontaminated in the bottle. The water stays cold inside and the fine mist means it’s both gentle and soothing and this calms any redness in my skin. Think of it like splashing your face with cold water in the morning, but with water that is sterile and offers more skin benefits. It’s glorified water, but for all the right reasons.
Eden’s Semilla Hyaluronic Acid Serum* Another product that is excellent for helping perk up and awaken the skin is this serum. By keeping this product in the fridge it has a very similar effect to the Thermal Water and the combination of both products is super effective in soothing the skin. As you may know, hyaluronic acid helps the skin retain and replenish moisture and this serum offers 20% hyaluronic acid making it super effective. My skin feels instantly firmer and tighter whenever I apply this and it counteracts any puffiness and leaves my skin looking supple and healthy.
Natural JOE Organic Camu Camu Under Eye Nectar* For an eye cream that actually helps in reducing the appearance of puffiness and dark under eye circles, this is one of the best I have tried, as it does exactly as it promises. This natural serum’s consistency feels lightweight on the skin and sinks in quickly. The main ingredients are camu camu, which is rich in antioxidants and coffee powder, which works to stimulate the under eye area and increase blood circulation—whilst other ingredients like aloe vera and chamomile are soothing and restorative. I have been using this product for a few months now and it really has helped counteract my dark under eye circles.
Still Spa Essentials Anti-Shadow Cooling Eye Gel Mask If you have a bit more time in your morning routine or on a day off, I absolutely love using a cooling eye gel mask as a quick fix. They are so easy to use and keeping them in the fridge makes them an absolute treat to apply. This one contains sea algae and gardenia flower extract to effectively soothe and revive dry skin and help restore the skin’s natural moisture. I apply these and then relax for about 50 minutes or get some stuff done around the house, which really allows the product to sink into the skin. These are especially great to use before an event or something as it instantly eliminates puffiness and both firms and softens the under eye area. Still Spa Essentials is sold at Walmart and is also very affordable.
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer To help brighten my under eye area and conceal any discolouration I have been loving this concealer with the very longwinded name. It’s constantly raved about in the beauty community and now having finally tried it I totally understand why. It is marketed as a treatment and is specifically designed to help with fine lines and dark circles thanks to ingredients like goji berry and Haloxyl—an ingredient specifically designed to help fight the signs of aging. I do find the applicator on this takes some getting used to, but it is really gentle around the eye area and this concealer really does help brighten the eye area and makes me look so much more awake.
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in ‘Ethereal Light’ To help create an all over healthy complexion and leave your skin looking illuminated, there’s nothing else that really quite compares to these powders by Hourglass. These powders help filter out harsh light using Photoluminescent Technology and just leaves your skin looking radiant under any light. The shade ‘Ethereal Light’ is described as ‘an opalescent sheer, cool white powder that mimics a moonlit glow, even in broad daylight’ and it looks so beautiful and subtle on the skin. It is such a flattering powder and also sets any makeup wonderfully.
Illamasqua Eye Colouring Pencil in ‘Vow’ Lastly, you can’t go wrong with a nude eyeliner on the waterline to help make your eyes look bigger, brighter and more awake. It is such a quick and easy step to add to your makeup routine and offers maximum payoff. Even if I can’t be bothered with mascara, just applying a nude liner to the waterline makes such a difference. The formula of this Illamasqua one is creamy and wears well, but for a more affordable option, the Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner in ‘Nude’ is also fantastic.
