6 Favourites | Winter Edition

We survived January aka my least favourite month of the year and I am happy to report I am finally out of the post-Christmas blues and willing to embrace the last month and a bit of the Canadian winter (which has been all over the place this season).

Anyways, seeing as February is probably going to come and go in the blink of an eye, I figured I better get around to sharing what I have been loving this winter. So, here we go!

The Body Shop All-In-One Instablur 5-Action Perfector I had gotten lazy when it came to using a primer and I had forgotten how much of a difference it makes in your makeup application and its longevity. I have been constantly reaching for this primer from The Body Shop, which has a bit of a weird consistency, but once it warms up on contact it smoothes over the skin reducing the appearance of pores and imperfections. My skin looks instantly better just using this, but it also keeps my makeup from creasing or wearing off during the day.

by nanda Three Color Blush in ’01’* I really did not expect to fall in love with this blush as much as I have, but seeing as I have mentioned it here a few times now really just cements how much I have been enjoying using it. It’s pretty much the only blush I have reached for the last few months just because it applies beautifully and easily blends into the skin. Swirling all three of the shades together gives you this lovely flush of colour and the highlight in it gives my cheeks this incredible glow.

EcoTools Five Piece Travel Collection I love EcoTools brushes as they are affordable, cruelty-free and great quality. Since I stay at my boyfriend’s quite a bit, this little travel set has been so handy and convenient to keep in my bag and it comes with everything I need to do my everyday makeup. I love that the powder brush is large and fairly dense and I use the complexion brush to apply my blush. The angled liner brush allows me to fill in my brows with ease and I use the shadow brush to smudge eye liner or eye shadow along my upper and lower lash line.

Blanket Scarves My holy grail article of clothing this season has definitely been these guys. I bought my first blanket scarf two winters ago, but this year I have been especially thankful for them and wearing them pretty much everyday. I just find they offer so much more warmth than your regular scarf and double as a blanket, which is especially handy during lectures. Also, as someone who rarely wears colour, these patterned scarves add a little extra something to any outfit. The one pictured used to be my sister’s, but I also got one from H&M this season, which I love.

I am no bird and no net ensnares me.

Jane Eyre I actually have a book favourite to share and it is this beautiful copy of Charlotte Brontë’s, Jane Eyre, that I got for Christmas. I absolutely loved the 1943 movie with Orson Welles and Joan Fontaine, but had never actually read the book and it has been on my list to read for ages. This gothic romance follows the Bildungsroman of the title character and I adore Brontë’s descriptive and emotional writing. I love the strong, quiet strength Jane possesses and the story’s idea of the meaning of freedom.

Westworld After my boyfriend kept going on and on about how amazing this ‘sci-fi western’ was I decided to finally give it a go and I am so happy I did. It’s based on the 1973 film of the same name, and is a new series from HBO, which premiered in October. Giving you the most basic plot: the story takes place at a futuristic park populated by ‘hosts’—the name given to the artificial intelligence—where paying clients can visit and live out their fantasies without consequences. Everything from the soundtrack to the acting to the visuals to the opening credits is absolutely brilliant and intense. There is so much depth and layers to this show and it makes you challenge your perception of everything. I cannot wait until the second season.

What have you been loving during the winter months? I’d love to know!

ellerow.
