I think it’s safe to say that most people are happy to see 2016 come to an end, as it was definitely not a great year in terms of politics, world events and celebrity deaths. However, on a personal level, I did manage to have a great year chock full of adventures and exciting things and it has left me even more excited for 2017.
I do these posts more for myself to look back on and act as a reminder of everything I was able to do and accomplish in a year and I always come back to these posts to reread and reflect on. So, if you want to see what I got up to throughout 2016 cozy on up with a hot beverage and let’s go!
One of my favourite parts of 2016 was hopping on a plane and escaping the Canadian cold with Jason to Cancun, Mexico over my reading week. We had the most amazing time and you can reminisce with us over on this blogpost.
I was thrilled to have been invited to Toronto Fashion Week in March, which you can read about here. It was especially bittersweet as come summer IMG announced they were cancelling Toronto Fashion Week due to lack of funding.
I saw Ivory Hours play at The Moustache Club, which was an awesome and intimate venue.
I also volunteered at the Hot Docs Film Festival again! This year I worked with Industry and absolutely loved it.
My mum’s birthday/mother’s day was spent in Prince Edward County with the whole fam with lots of food and wine.
And that same weekend Erin and I also saw Portugal. The Man and Cage the Elephant at Arrow Hall.
In order to graduate in Spring 2017 I had to take summer school to make up for some courses I was missing. I ended up taking four courses—two each term—which was a bit of a bummer. However, I managed to pass all four courses and still have an awesome summer, so cheers to that!
Jason and I did a little adventuring in May which involved (literally) climbing the Scarborough Bluffs, which was the most terrifying and hilarious thing ever.
And then towards the end of May we explored some of the Waterfalls in Hamilton.
I also got a new tattoo in May! I am so in love with my stippled scallop shell.
In July, my mum and I booked a last minute trip to Ottawa, which you can read about here.
And of course, the summertime called for some beach days (and the best ice cream).
And we also found a surviving Banksy right in Toronto thanks to Pokemon Go!
Jason and I celebrated me surviving summer school by taking a road trip to Cleveland to see the Toronto Blue Jays play the Cleveland Indians. To see everything we got up to, you can read this blogpost.
We ended summer 2016 with a few days relaxing and drinking at Joe’s (amazing) family cottage in Haliburton with Shelly and Joe.
Well, that’s not entirely true. Summer 2016 actually ended with Jason getting all four of his wisdom teeth removed and me acting as caretaker for a couple of days. I have a funny video of him post-anesthetic, but I’ll keep that off the internet—for now…
Jason and I also managed to squeeze in two camping trips over the summer. We went to Algonquin Provincial Park end of June and end of August we went to Killbear Provincial Park and brought the pup on her first camping trip.
September meant back-to-school to start my 4th and final year of my undergrad. A first day of school photo seemed only fitting.
October aka my favourite month rolled around, which started off with Jason and I celebrating our anniversary in Niagara Falls. I can’t even put into words how much I love this handsome guy.
I also finally went to Live Organic Food Bar which I have wanted to go to for years and it did not disappoint—even my carnivore brother enjoyed his meal. I had the Manicotti and the Green Electricity Juice.
My mum, brother, sister and I got spooked at Legends of Horror at Casa Loma and had a blast.
Jason and I went to Chudleigh’s Farm to go pumpkin picking, which really got me into the fall spirit.
And Jason and I dressed up as the Arthur and DW memes for Halloween (still laughing at our costumes).
To get into the Christmas spirit, Jason and I went to the Santa Claus Parade and I also got to see Mariah Carey sing ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ live for the Hudson’s Bay and Saks Fifth Avenue holiday window unveiling.
This Christmas was super relaxing and definitely just what I needed. I am so happy I got to spend it with both mine and Jason’s families with lots of food, lots of drinks, Telestrations and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Other highlights for 2016 included:
My best friend getting engaged at the end of the summer! I can’t even begin to explain how happy I am for her and I am so excited to stand by her side on her big day. I was also at her Kleinfeld’s appointment where she said yes to her dream dress by her favourite designer!
I also checked out two exhibits at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
Mum and I saw the J.M.W. Turner: Painting Set Free exhibit end of January.
Then in November my mum, sister and I saw the Mystical Landscapes exhibit (on until January 29, 2017 and worth it alone to see van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night Over the Rhone’). You couldn’t take pictures at this one, so instead here’s a pic of me from that day.
Tons of snuggles with my two fur babies.
And of course, lots of hangouts with this happy puppito!
I also have to say a HUGE thank you to all the brands and PR companies that reached out to me this past year for product reviews, event invites and collabs. It means so much when someone contacts me because they enjoy my writing and photos. I try not to get too hung up on numbers, but in 2017 I really would love to see Ellerow grow even more and work harder to grow my following.
I am so excited for 2017—between graduating from university, taking a much needed vacation once I am officially done school, Jenn’s wedding, getting a big girl job and apartment hunting come the fall with Jason—there is a lot to look forward to and be excited about!
I am so thankful for all the things I was able to do in 2016 and I will be sending it off tonight with a few drinks and good company.
I hope you all have a safe and fun New Year’s Eve—what ever you get up to—and I am wishing you all happiness and health in the New Year!
