It’s safe to say I’m not too bold or daring when it comes to my makeup, so when the holidays roll around I am not the girl rocking a super glittery eye or a dark red lip at the Christmas party. That being said, I still like to switch things up and add a bit of colour and shimmer to my holiday look.
Here are the products that are giving my makeup look a bit of a festive spin this holiday season, but without taking me too far out of my comfort zone.
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette I’m not one for lots of glitter, but I am all for subtle shimmer that enhances my complexion and gives me a luminous glow. I adore this Hourglass palette so much and I really need to start using it more and not just saving it for ‘special occasions’. And what better time to bring it out than for the holidays? Not only does it give me beautiful illuminated skin, but it also filters out harsh light making your skin look better in any light, including photography, so you can look your best in those family photos.
Illamasqua Gleam in ‘Aurora’ This is one of my favourite highlighters for this time of year, as the effect this has on your skin can rival that of some of your twinkling decorations (is that a weird analogy? Maybe). The creamy champagne shade gives you a ton of highlight without it looking unnatural. It’s iridescent formula is stunning and though I use it mostly on my cheekbones, it is designed to lift and highlight all over the face and body.
Starlooks Gem Eye Pencil in ‘Ultra Olive’ A easy and subtle way to bring a bit of glitter into your holiday look is with a glitter eyeliner. This pencil does not tug on the skin and has the perfect amount of colour payoff. The olive shade is subtle, making it perfect for lining your lower lash line with. The result is a pretty and shimmery lash line that picks up the equally pretty olive shade in the light.
Sephora 12hr Wear Waterproof Eye Pencil in ‘Go for a Ride’ For a non-glittery option, I absolutely adore this dark green eyeliner. It’s such a subtle way to incorporate colour without it feeling too extreme. The formula of these eyeliners are super creamy and pigmented and they apply evenly. They also really do live up to their 12hr name.
Vasanti Matte Crush Lipstick Pencil in ‘Red X’* I said in this post I would give this a go over the holidays and I am staying true to my word. Though I typically steer clear of red lip products, this one has a pink undertone to it making it much more flattering on me with my complexion. I love the formula of this as it just glides onto the lips, is rich in pigmentation and the built in lip liner really makes it easier to apply and wear.
Essie Nail Polish in ‘Apres-Chic’ I got this nail polish last year for Christmas and it is still one of my favourite Essie nail polishes. This shimmery silver shade makes my nails look like little Christmas baubles and I am totally okay with that. It also dries a lot faster than other Essie polishes, which is a plus. However, like any polish that has shimmer or glitter in it, it is a bit of a pest to remove.
Essence Mountain Calling Snow Top Coat Lastly, how much fun is this affordable top coat? I picked it up last December and totally forgot about it. It gives any nail polish a snow effect with its little white snowflakes and it’s just flat out adorable. Unfortunately, I don’t think this is available anymore and I have no idea if anyone else makes something similar to this.
