A Powder for Every Occasion

I know powders are not an essential for every person out there, but for me they are a staple in my makeup routine—whether I’m wearing very minimal makeup or a full face. Today, I am sharing five of my favourite powders and it just so happens I have one for every occasion.

The Tone Correcting One

e.l.f. Tone Correcting Powder Let’s start with the most affordable out of the bunch and the one I have been wearing the most recently. This my favourite powder for anytime of year as the colours really help to neutralize any skin problems. Even if I’m not wearing any makeup I’ll still dust this all over my face and it noticeably calms the redness in my skin and minimizes any shine. It won’t completely mask all your skin problems, but as a powder and one that only costs $4.00 I am thrilled with the results using this.

The Mattifying One

Essence All About Matt! Fixing Compact Powder Ringing in at only a dollar more is my favourite powder for the summer months. This guy keeps me shine free all day and helps my makeup last even in the hottest heat. The white powder definitely looks intimidating at first, but it is completely translucent so it works with all skin tones. It looks natural on the skin and it does not sit on top of your makeup.

The All-Purpose One

NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder This product seems to get mixed reviews in the beauty world, but I honestly think it’s fantastic. I don’t tend to use this all over my face, but focus mainly on my t-zone and under the eyes. This powder works with all sources of light to optimize light reflection making it particularly great if you are being photographed. On top of that it sets my makeup, controls shine and the durable, hard formula of this powder and the large mirror make it great for travelling.

The Illuminating One

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in ‘Ethereal Light’ This is definitely the most luxurious powder out of any I have ever tried and it is honestly worth every penny. Like the NARS powder, it also filters out harsh light and it just gives my skin this illuminated, lit from within glow. This powder is just an absolute treat to use and I definitely save this for more special occasions, but if I had the money I would have every one of the Ambient Lighting Powders in my collection.

The Loose Powder One

The Body Shop Extra Virgins Mineral Powder Foundation I tend to steer clear of loose powders, as I find them messy to use—it’s as if I’m swirling my brush in cocoa powder. This one is marketed as a foundation, which might be why I like it. If I am wearing minimal makeup or need extra coverage this powder is an excellent option. I have mentioned numerous times how much I like mineral makeup and even though I’m not a huge fan of the scent of this, I let that slide simply because it’s that good. This was on sale online and seems to be sold out at the moment, but hopefully it is not discontinued.

What are your favourite powders? I’d love to know!
