There’s no denying that I love new makeup and I thought a drugstore haul was long overdue. All the items I am sharing here today are from brands that are cruelty-free meaning they do not test their products on animals. A few of these products are repurchases, but most of them are new for me.
If you want to hear my brief spiel of each product (there are quite a few to get through, so I want to keep this short and sweet), then carry on reading!
Real Techniques Powder Brush I have wanted this brush for ages and I finally decided to pick it up. I am already a huge fan of this brand as there brushes are super soft, synthetic and have no fallout. This brush is perfect for not only powdering, but also for bronzing up the skin. Like all of Real Techniques’ brushes, it allows for the product to easily be applied and blended into the skin.
Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge My old sponge was in quite a sorry state, so I decided it was time to retire it and replace it with a new one. I still have not tried the much loved Beauty Blender, but I really do love this affordable alternative. I’m definitely a brush girl when it comes to applying foundation and concealer, but I specifically love this for blending in product under the eyes and on any spots or blemishes.
Essence Liquid Lipstick in ‘Beauty Secret’ I love Essence’s lipsticks and now I can also say I love their liquid lipsticks. These apply so creamy on the lips and are not drying or sticky. The longevity isn’t the greatest, but the doe foot applicator makes it a breeze to reapply. I love the pinky mauve shade of this and definitely now want all the other colours.
Essence Lipliner in ‘Satin Mauve’ For only a couple of dollars, not only are these lipliners incredibly inexpensive, they are also fantastic. I use the shade ‘In the Nude’ all the time and picked up this liner specifically for both wearing on its own and with the liquid lipstick mentioned above. These liners are creamy, but still firm enough to easily outline your lips and these also sharpen smoothly.
Essence Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel Mascara I have been wanting to try this product for so long and I am so happy it is now available in Canada! The tiny brush on this makes filling in your brows a breeze and works great with a brow powder or just on its own. The tiny fibers in this also helps fill in any sparse areas so you are left with fuller looking brows. The downside is this only comes in two shades—a blonde and a brown—but luckily the blonde one matches me fine.
Essence Say No to Redness These little correcting stick were to cute not to grab. The formula is super creamy and blends well into the skin. I actually wasn’t wowed by this product as I feel like it barely masked the redness unless I really laid it on my skin. It’s good for blemishes where you can layer it up, but it just didn’t really work for the redness around my nose or on my chin.
Essence Say No to Dark Circles Even though the redness one was a little disappointing, I love this one that’s for dark circles. Again, the formula is creamy which means it does not tub around the delicate eye area and it blends beautifully. The light pink shade really helps to cancel out the dark shadows and discolouration under my eyes and leaves my eyes looking brighter and more awake—even without concealer applied on top.
Essence Contour Powder I usually just use bronzer to contour, but since this was so affordable I decided to give it a go. This is the only product in this haul I haven’t tried, but I have swatched it and it looks promising. The bronzer is matte and looks like it will work with my pale skin really well to help naturally define my features and the highlighter is a beautiful champagne shade.
Essence All About Matt! Fixing Compact Powder This is one of my favourite powders ever and I had to pick one up for the summer. It sets my makeup perfectly and controls any oil and shine. It looks natural on the skin and I like that it doesn’t make my skin look too matte and I find I rarely have to re-powder later in the day when I use this. If you’ve got oily or combination skin, I highly recommend giving this translucent powder a try.
e.l.f. Gotta Glow Lip Tint in ‘Perfect Pink’ As soon as I saw this I knew I had to get it because it seems like it could be a dupe for the Dior Addict Lip Glow, which I so badly want to try. The lip tint reacts with the chemistry of your lips to give you your perfect flush of pink colour. I love the brighter pink it gives my lips without the hassle of a lipstick, as it is so easy to apply and wear. The only negative is I do find this product drying.
e.l.f. Beautifully Bare Lash Tint Mascara This seemed like a great option for specifically my lower lashes which are very fair, as I don’t like clumping my lower lashes with mascara. The brush is super thin which makes it easy to apply and it really makes it look like my lashes are naturally darker. A lot of the reviews say that it made their top and bottom lashes stick together, but I had no issues with that. However, that might be because I only used it on my bottom lashes. I will say that this smudges easily, so I would love for this to come in a waterproof formula.
e.l.f. Tone Correcting Powder Lastly, I repurchased this much loved powder. It not only sets my makeup perfectly, but really does help to even out my skin tone and neutralize any problems. It even does a good enough job that if I want to go makeup free, I will just dust this powder all over my face and my skin instantly looks better, brighter and healthier.
