Cancun | What’s in my Travel Makeup Bag?

In less than 48 hours, I will be escaping the Canadian cold on a plane headed to Cancun, Mexico. I absolutely cannot wait to relax on the beach with a fruity drink and not have to wear my parka for a week. Back in May, I did a similar post for my trip to New York City (you can read that here), which I really enjoyed doing. I figured different climate = different products, so why not share what is coming with me for this vacation!

Once I have a bit of colour, I will be wearing very minimal makeup during the day—a dusting of powder to control any shine, filling in my brows (always a must) and maybe a swipe of mascara. However, being a makeup addict I still want enough options for the evening for when we go out for dinner and drinks.

If you want to see what I am packing in my holiday makeup bag for Mexico, carry on reading!

For my face, my main concern is keeping it constantly protected, so during the day I have my Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Face Lotion, which offers SPF 30. I am already a fan of the Silk Hydration range, but have not tried their face lotion, so I am hoping I have no issues with it. It is oil-free and non-greasy so it should feel lightweight on the skin and not clog my pores while I am out in the sun. In the evening, I have my Boscia B.B. Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 27 which still offers sun protection, but also gives me some coverage. I love how this B.B. cream looks and feels on my skin and the self-adjusting shade means it will match my skin at the beginning of our vacation and also at the end. For concealer, I repurchased the e.l.f. HD Lifting Concealer to give me some extra coverage.

I need to have powder on me no matter the weather, but especially in the heat when my skin starts to produce more oil. The e.l.f. Tone Correcting Powder is perfect for not only setting my makeup, but also minimizing any redness on my face, making it excellent for the daytime when I don’t want to use concealer. I am also bringing my NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder just in case I want to enhance my glow in the evening. Also for the evening, I am packing my Sephora Bronzed and Blushing Face Palette (no longer available, sorry!) which comes with a buildable matte bronzer and two pretty blushes—one soft pink and a bright coral. I also decided to bring my Stila All Over Liquid Luminizer in ‘Kitten Shimmer’ to mix with my moisturizer to give my skin more of a radiant glow.

Prime & Set

Along with keeping my skin protected, my second concern is making sure my makeup does not slide around and keeping any shine to a minimum. For primer I have this little guy—the Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Foundation Primer which feels like silk on the skin and keeps my makeup in place. And of course, I am also packing The Body Shop All-In-One Instablur Eye Primer which is so good for creating a smooth base for concealer and eye shadow, as well as cancelling out and concealing any redness and veins. And of course, whether I am wearing a full face of makeup in the evening or my skin is just feeling extra oily during the day, I have to have my Urban Decay De-Slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray. For on the go touchups, the Essence All About Matt! Oil Control Paper is perfect for blotting away any shine without disrupting my makeup.

Eyes & Brows

The only eye shadow product I am bring with me is my MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in ‘Painterly’, as it does not budge on the eyes and the nude shade makes it easy to wear. I am not sure if I will even end up bothering with eyeliner, but if I decide I want to, I am bringing my Starlooks Luxe Longwear Eye Liner Pen as this liquid liner does not budge and will last even after a night of dancing. My Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in ‘Nude’ goes with me everywhere for applying on my waterline as well as to cover any (god forbid) pesky blemishes I may get. I also have this mini Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara because it looks natural for during the day and then I can build it up for the evening. For no fail brows, I am bringing my Chella Eyebrow Color Pencil in ‘Tantalizing Taupe’, which I just adore. To set them in place or just when I want a bit of colour on my brows, I have my Elizabeth Mott Queen of the Fill Brow Gel, which I also adore.

For the daytime, I have my Carmex Original Stick lip balm. To be honest, I am actually not a huge fan of it because it is medicated, but at least I know my lips will be protected. To apply before bed or whenever my lips feel like they need some extra nourishment, I am bringing The Body Shop Aloe Vera Lip Treatment. This product is very much loved and feels so soothing and hydrating on the lips and the aloe makes it an excellent choice for this kind of trip. In regards to colour, I am only bringing two options for the evening and of course they are both corals. Avon Beyond Color Plumping Lip Color in ‘Cantaloupe’ is a more orange toned coral that looks incredible with a tan and Essence Long Lasting Lipstick in ‘Coral Calling’ is more pink toned. To help these lipsticks last all night my Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in ‘Ozone’ will easily do the job.

I am so excited to spend a week in paradise and I cannot wait to share my trip with you all here! If I’m lucky, maybe I can bring some of the warm weather back home with me.
