It’s officially fall and with typical Canadian weather, it’s a little all over the place. For the most part it is beginning to feel and smell like fall outside, but other days (like today), the sun is beating down and I can still get away with shorts and a tee. This fall I seem to be drawn to much more sophisticated and put together outfits. As always, it’s still completely comfortable and follows a neutral palette, but a lot of these pieces are easy to transition from day to night.
Here’s 10 things in regards to fashion and beauty I am particularly loving for the fall:
I have been wanting a leather backpack for quite awhile and being a student, it’s the perfect option for the fall. I’m that person that overpacks their bag, so a backpack is much more forgiving to my poor back than my tote bag is. Chapters got this Double Zip Backpack in for the fall and it is just what I’ve been looking for, plus it does not look cheap for faux leather. I also love the Chanda Backpack in ‘Cocoa’ by Matt & Nat, as a more high-end faux leather option.
2. Faux Fur
Along with a leather backpack, I have also been on the hunt for the perfect faux fur vest for the fall. I think it just adds so much more to an otherwise plain outfit. I’ve seen this one from H&M which I really like, as it’s the right colour and doesn’t look cheap. However, the ultimate factor is if this fits right and doesn’t leave me looking like a Wildling (though if it attracts the attention of Jon Snow, then I’m not opposed to that).
3. Coloured Eyeliner
I’m not too adventurous with my eye looks, especially when it comes to colour. Coloured eyeliner is an easy way to change up your daytime look for the fall without it looking too over the top. Last fall I bought the Too Faced Perfect Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner in ‘Perfect Navy’, which I love, but I only wore it a couple of times. I am determined to step out of my comfort zone and try wearing this more often. I would also love to try a dark green eyeliner and the Sephora 12-Hour Wear Waterproof Eyeliner in ‘Go for a Ride’ looks absolutely perfect.
4. Printed Shirts
I used to love printed shirts, then I didn’t wear them for awhile and now for the fall I am into them again. I think the hardest part is finding one that fits right—loose, but not too loose, the right length, fits in the arms…talk about first world problems. I especially love the look of a printed button down under a knit, but let’s cut to the chase—how adorable is the bunny print on this H&M top? I need it!
5. Loose Fit Trousers
In the winter I pretty much live in leggings, but for the fall I’m all about loose fitting bottoms. I own a couple pairs of loose pants, but no loose trousers and I need a pair to make an appearance in my closet asap. These easily take you from day to night and I can wear these to class and still be comfortable all day long. These trousers from Zara are an example of what I’m looking for, but I have seen similar styles everywhere—H&M, Topshop and ASOS, just to name a few…
I’ve always loved stripes, but one of my favourite bloggers, Rebecca of From Roses, has recently gotten me obsessed. They are such an easy transitional piece from the summer to fall and are always a no fail option for me. Whenever I don’t know what to wear, I chuck on something with stripes and it always ends up being a safe option. I already own quite a few striped pieces, but I also love this loose striped dress by Zara which can easily be dressed up or down. I can still get away with bare legs at the moment, but once it gets cooler, add a pair of woolly tights and swap the flats for ankle boots and you’re good as gold.
7. Dusty Rose Shades
Along with coloured eyeliner, I am also really into dusty rose shades in regards to beauty for the fall. In the spring and summer I’m all about the corals and orange shades, but once the weather cools down I reach for my pinks. This of course means my favourite NARS Lipstick in ‘Dolce Vita’ will have a permanent place in my handbag and I also have my eye on the blush in the same shade. However, the main product I want to get my hands on is the Too Faced Love Flush Long-Lasting 16-Hour Blush in ‘Baby Love’ which is a soft dusty nude with subtle shimmer. It has gotten great reviews and its cute as a button packaging reminds me of Polly Pocket. Unfortunately, this shade is sold out online and at all my local Sephora stores, so fingers crossed this comes back in stock soon.
8. Heeled Ankle Boots
I’m all for ankle boots, but I have especially been into ones with a chunky heel. The heel gives me some much needed height, which is a confidence boost in itself, but the chunky heel means it’s easy to walk in as I crunch through the fall leaves. I have wanted a pair of boots like these Fongara Boots by Spring for months. The exposed heel and peep toe makes it still wearable as we transition into fall and I can picture myself wearing these with a dark red toe and a pair of those loose fit trousers.
9. Blanket Scarves
I love scarves, but I didn’t realize how necessary a blanket scarf was until I bought one last winter. I get cold really easily, especially when I am sitting in lecture and a blanket scarf is perfect to wrap yourself up in while you take notes. The one I already have is a maroon and black Aztec print, so I would love to also have a neutral one that goes with everything. I have my eye on this Wilfred Colour Block Blanket Scarf from Aritzia which contains all my favourite neutral shades.
Lastly, is something I used to not be able to wear without feeling like I am being suffocated. Then last year I suddenly started enjoying turtlenecks, as they are so cozy and I feel really sophisticated and like an adult (I have a hard time coming to terms with that, yes, I am an adult) whenever I wear one. I love this one by Joe Fresh with it’s looser funnel neck and salt and pepper shade. I think it would be especially great under the faux fur vest.
What are you loving fashion and beauty wise this fall? I’d love to know!
