Brand Focus | Live Clean

IMG_6688I have been wanting to do another ‘Brand Focus’ post for awhile and today I have my second installment of it for you! If you want to read my first ‘Brand Focus’ post, which covered Sonia Kashuk, you can find it here. Today, I am covering another one of my favourite brands, which I have been loyal to for years: Live Clean.

If you’re not familiar with ‘Brand Focus’ posts it’s where I focus on one brand and talk briefly about the brand’s background and history. I’ll then cover some of my favourite products that I have tried.

A little bit about Live Clean:

Started in 2007, Live Clean is proudly a Canadian brand with a vision to go green without compromising performance. Their products are not only better for you, but for the environment as well. Since 2007, they have expanded from just 3 shampoos and 3 conditioners to a full range of hair care, baby care, bath care, skin care, lip care products and even pet products.

All of Live Clean’s products are up to 98% plant based and only use renewable and sustainable ingredients. All of their products are free of any harsh, unnecessary chemicals and are free of petroleum, parabens, SLS, sulfates, DEA, phthalates and phosphates. To learn more about why these ingredients are so bad, I highly recommend checking out their ‘All the Good Without the Bad’ page here.

Most of Live Clean’s products are vegan with the exception of some that contain beeswax and honey. Live Clean is also 100% cruelty-free and only works with suppliers who also do not test on animals. You can find their products at most Canadian retailers including Real Canadian Superstore, Walmart, Shoppers Drug Mart and Rexall. Unfortunately, their products are not sold outside of Canada, with the exception of their baby products, which you can find at some Walgreens in the US. If you are outside of Canada and want to try their products, I would recommend checking online.

Anyways, onto the products:

Their shampoos and conditioners are definitely my favourite product that they offer. I have been using them for years, ever since my mum discovered them, and have seldomly strayed away since. At the moment, I have been using the Live Clean Exotic Silk Keratin Smoothing Shampoo ($5.99) with the matching Live Clean Exotic Silk Keratin Smoothing Conditioner ($5.99), as I have been battling with frizz due to the heat and being in need of a haircut. Infused with keratin oil, which strengthens and smoothes the hair, these two products also contain phyto-keratin protein, Brazilian buriti oil, macadamia nut oil and wild flower honey. All their shampoos and conditioners smell amazing, without being overpowering or artificial and the shampoos also lather up really well.

Always in my shower is the Live Clean Apple Cider Clarifying Shampoo ($5.99), which is actually the first product I ever tried by Live Clean. Despite containing apple cider vinegar, this product does not have a vinegar scent, but a subtle crisp apple scent. I use this once every couple of weeks as a deep cleanser to remove any product buildup and residue. It’s gentle enough that it does not strip my hair and if you have really oily hair you can even use this everyday.

I have used the TRESemmé Heat Tamer Spray for years, but had been looking for a cruelty-free option for quite awhile. So, I was so excited when I realized Live Clean had their own heat protectant. The Live Clean Exotic Silk Keratin Oil Thermal Protective Spray ($5.99) can be used on both wet and dry hair prior to heat styling, as well as a finishing spray to smooth hair. This has the same amazing scent as the shampoo and conditioner I mentioned earlier and also contains the same phyto-keratin botanical blend to help restore health and shine to your hair.

Another hair product I love is the Live Clean Exotic Nectar Argan Oil Treatment ($10.99). I apply this to both wet and dry hair, focusing on the ends of my hair, as well as any flyaways. I love the formula of this, as it’s in-between an oil and a gel, making it lightweight, so that it does not weigh down my hair or make my hair look greasy. Live Clean states that this product is silicone-free, explaining that a lot of frizz serums are derived from silicone dioxide. Though this ingredient starts out natural, it undergoes a high level of chemical processing in order to be used as a cosmetic ingredient. Thus, it produces a large ecological footprint (the spray is also silicone-free).

Bath and Body

I am also a huge fan of their body washes, as not only do you get a ton of product for the value, but they work exceptionally well too. My favourite is the Live Clean Exotic Nectar Argan Oil Body Wash ($5.99) because not only does it leave my skin soft, but I am also a huge fan of anything with that argan oil scent. This one nourishes and replenishes the skin with 100% argan oil and also contains certified organic botanicals of grape seed and olive leaf extracts which help protect the skin’s moisture barrier. This product definitely has helped the texture and tone of my skin, whilst providing all over moisture. This product lathers up really well, and a little goes a long way with it.

The spa therapy line is their line of luxurious and indulgent products. They all contain the same scent of white tea, lemon and ginger, as well as other stimulating, beneficial ingredients such as green tea and aloe vera. I had mentioned in this post, that I am actually not a huge fan of the scent of these products, as I find the lemon slightly overpowering to the point that it reminds me of cleaning products. Scent aside, both of these products are excellent. The Live Clean Spa Therapy Polishing Body Scrub ($9.99) is easily in my top 3 favourite body scrubs—which is saying something as I am pretty picky with body scrubs. It’s extremely effective, without being too abrasive thanks to finely milled cornmeal and walnut shell. I have also been using the Live Clean Spa Therapy Soothing Dead Sea Salts ($9.99) to sooth sore, tired muscles. This blend of Epsom and Dead Sea salts really effectively helps to purify the skin and helps me relax and unwind after a long day or week.

Last, but not least, the newest product I have tried by them is their Live Clean Lovely Lips Protecting Lip Balm ($5.99). Their lip balms, which come in 3 formulas, are 100% natural and 99% organic. I went with the protecting lip balm, which contains vitamin E. Along with vitamin E, this lip balm contains sunflower, safflower and coconut oils, as well as beeswax, carrot seed oil extract and oat kernel oil. I love this for everyday, as it isn’t a thick, heavy lip balm, but still offers plenty of moisture and combats any dryness. The formula of this also makes it the perfect base for lipstick.

If you want affordable, high-performing, cruelty-free products, without any nasty ingredients, I can’t recommend this brand enough!

Have you tried anything by Live Clean? What are some of your favourite products by them?
