The 5 Product Face

IMG_6895

First off, apologies for the lack of posts this past week. I have been away from my computer and instead taking advantage of the gorgeous weather we have been having here. As much as I enjoyed myself, I am so happy to be back behind my camera and laptop and posting again! Today, I’m doing the ‘5 Product Face’ which—if the name doesn’t give it away—is creating a makeup look using only 5 products.

I think minimizing the amount of products you use everyday is really refreshing, especially at the moment since I have a bit of a tan, so my acne scars and the redness in my skin is not as noticeable (to me anyways). I’m all for that ‘no makeup’ makeup look, but usually I use about 10 products to achieve that. It’s also nice to know that I can still feel put together and confident with only 5 products and have my makeup done in about 5 minutes.

This is the look I went with, which is very natural with a pop of pink on the cheeks and lips:

Boscia B.B. Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 27

I have been wearing B.B. creams on an almost daily basis and I love everything about this one—and that’s not just because the packaging reminds me of Hokusai’s Great Wave. I love the formula of this as it sinks into the skin like a moisturizer and really helps to even out my skin tone and minimize redness. It isn’t too high coverage either so I can still see my freckles—which I want—since the sunshine has brought them out to play. I also like that this is a self-adjusting shade so I don’t have to worry about it being too light or too dark for me, and the result is a natural, healthy complexion and just the perfect base.

Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Airbrushed Pressed Powder in ‘Creamy Natural’

Since my skin is more on the oily side I always need a powder to set my face makeup and to help keep any shine at bay. I used to be obsessed with this powder and I can’t believe I ever stopped using it. It really does give your skin an airbrushed look without being too powdery or unnatural looking. It also minimizes any fine lines without sitting on top of your skin like a lot of other powders. This powder is suitable for sensitive and breakout-prone skin as it is talc-free, paraben-free, fragrance-free and hypoallergenic, so I know my skin can breathe and that it isn’t going to irritate it even when I am outside and sweating.

Chella Eyebrow Color Pencil in ‘Tantalizing Taupe’

Seeing as my brows are non-existent, no makeup look is complete for me without my brows being done. I’m still loving this fantastic brow pencil by Chella, as the nib on it is so fine, making it incredibly easy to mimic brow hair—especially for someone like myself that barely has any. I like that this product isn’t waxy, but still lasts all day even without any brow gel. I brushed through my brows after to soften it, so it looks more natural and I love the end result using this. I had mentioned back in this ipsy post that the product did feel a little loose, but I’m happy to report that it has held up fine since then.

Clinique High Impact Mascara

If I am only wearing one thing on my eyeballs it’s got to be a mascara that gives my lashes a boost of volume. I haven’t heard much about this mascara in the beauty world, but something inside me made me feel inclined to try it and I’m happy I did—I have been loving it lately! It’s build able formula means I can get my lashes really full and the formula keeps my lashes soft and not hard like a lot of mascaras. So, I just layered this up on both my top and bottom lashes until I was satisfied. I’m really surprised that despite the fuller brush how easy it is to apply this to my lower lashes.

Pixi by Petra Shea Butter Lip Balm in ‘Pixi Pink’

Lastly, to finish this look off is a bit of colour on my cheeks and lips. The fun thing about doing the ‘5 Product Face’ is you also discover products that can be multipurpose, like this tinted lip balm. Not only does it keep your lips moisturized and give them a little colour (or a lot if you build it up), but it also works beautifully as a cream blush as well. I applied a little straight onto my cheeks and blended it out with my fingertips and it just gave this perfect, dewy flush of colour. Oh, how I wish I grabbed the other shades of this product when Target was still here…

What do you think of this look? Hope you all have had a lovely weekend!
