OOTN & FOTN | Power Ball XVII: Appetite for Excess

PowerBall_CollageAt the beginning of June I was lucky enough to attend the Power Ball XVII with my friend Shelly for The Big Eat Ontario. This charity event is held annually at The Power Plant, which is a non-profit, contemporary art gallery situated along the Harbourfront in Toronto.

This year’s theme was ‘Appetite for Excess’ which investigates the fine line between decadence and debauchery through visual art, music, fashion and food. The event included an incredible (and edible) food performance by Jennifer Rubell titled ‘So Sorry’, which was such a surreal and unique experience. You can find more information about Jennifer Rubell here.

I actually helped write the piece on this event for The Big Eat Ontario. So, if you want to get a more in-depth look of the event in regards to food, drink and the food performance itself, I would be thrilled if you gave it a read. You can find it here. You can also find more information on the Power Ball event here.

This post I’ll be covering my outfit and makeup for the event so—if you’re interested—carry on reading!

The Outfit:

Top – Banana Republic

Pants – H&M

Body Chain – Nasty Gal

Earrings – The Bay

Ring – Vintage

Bag – H&M

I had no idea how to dress for this event, as I had never been to anything like it. I opted for pants over a skirt or dress as I wanted to be as comfortable as possible. These loose, textured pants were the perfect choice as they were so soft and cozy and it honestly felt like I was wearing pyjama pants. I got these a few months ago from H&M and I’m not sure if they are still available, but if they are I’d highly recommend grabbing a pair while you can. I paired it with a flowy white top that, surprisingly, managed to stay stain-free all night. For accessories, I went with my Nasty Gal body chain which I absolutely love and is just a bit different than your standard necklace. I’m also in love with these earrings, as they remind me of spiral art from when I was a kid. For a pop of colour I added this fog blue bag I recently got.

On my nails I went with Maybelline Color Show Nail Lacquer in ‘Blue Freeze’ which is a shimmery navy (this shade isn’t on the website, but I’m pretty sure it’s still available in-store) with Deborah Lippmann Nail Polish in ‘Cleopatra in New York’ on top.PowerBall_MakeupIMG_6552

The Makeup:

For my makeup, the main concern was it lasting all night long. After moisturizing, I applied my Illamasqua Matte Veil to prime my face and mattify the skin. For an event like this I would usually wear foundation, but I didn’t want to worry about shine so I went with my beloved Sonia Kashuk Liquid Light Concealer and applied that under my eye, on my chin, around my nose, as well as a bit on my forehead. To set the concealer I used three different powders—call me crazy, but thanks to these powders my face stayed shine-free all night. I dusted my Sonia Kashuk Undetectable Pressed Powder all over my face, before applying my NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder along my t-zone. I have mentioned this numerous times, but this powder is perfect for if you are being photographed. A recent discovery has been the e.l.f. Studio High Definition Undereye Setting Powder which, like the NARS powder, is ideal for when you are being photographed, as the shimmer in it helps brighten the under eye. For blush I went with my current favourite which is ‘Lover’, a soft apricot shade from my Illamasqua Powder Blusher Duo. To highlight I applied Illamasqua Gleam in ‘Aurora’ with my fingertips which is so buttery and lovely.

Moving onto brows, I filled them in with the Chella Eyebrow Color Pencil in ‘Tantalizing Taupe’ which I have been loving and set them in place with Benefit Speed Brow. For eyes I started off with my MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in ‘Painterly’ as a base, before applying Pixi by Petra Fairy Dust in ‘Brightening Bare’ all over my lid. This loose shadow is a gorgeous, shimmery nude and I think it went well with the overall look. I was feeling ambitious, so I went with a winged liner which I created using the Coastal Scents Liquid Eyeliner in ‘Jet’ (amazing, affordable liquid liner—does not budge). For mascara I went with a new favourite, Clinique High Impact Mascara and applied the Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara on the bottom lashes. As always, I brightened my eye area by lining my waterline with the Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in ‘Nude’.

The main star of this look was the NARS Satin Lip Pencil in ‘Lodhi’. I am so smitten with this coral shade, as not only is it gorgeous, it applies so creamy, is very pigmented and it did not dry out my lips at all. To prevent it from bleeding and prolong its longevity I first lined my lips with Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in ‘Ozone’ which I am really impressed with. Lastly, a quick sprits of Urban Decay De-Slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray to lock everything in place and ensure my makeup was not going anywhere.

LeahShelly_CollageA huge thank you again to Shelly for inviting me to attend this amazing event, it was an absolute BALL (see above picture, but seriously it was). If you’re not familiar with her blog, The Big Eat Ontario, I would highly encourage you to check them out. They got you covered for all things food and drink in Southern Ontario and promote local businesses, which I think is so important. Their articles are positive, honest and really informative and their food photography is some of the best I have seen.

All photos featured in this post from the event were taken by Shelly.

Thanks for reading!
