Summer Beauty Essentials

summer beauty essentials

With Summer a mere 18 days away, I have started to sort through my products for things that I know I will be reaching for more during the warmer months. My combo skin changes from dehydrated to oily, my minimalist makeup becomes even more minimal (if that’s possible) and I lean towards more ‘Summery’ shades in regards to lips and nails. When it comes to beauty, Summer to me means very minimal makeup, fuss-free hair and shine-free skin. These 8 products are the front runners in my ‘Summer Beauty Essentials’:

I love BB Creams and Tinted Moisturizers in the Summer, particularly BB Creams, as they act as a serum, moisturizer, primer, foundation and sun protection, all in one simple step. The Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream with SPF 35 is great, as it does not feel heavy on the skin, but offers enough coverage. And because this product is oil-controlling it is the perfect base during the Summer to eliminate the oil on my face, whilst still keeping my skin moisturized.

Though my main goal is to keep my skin shine-free, I also want my skin to have a healthy, summer glow. I especially love the Stila All Over Liquid Luminizer in ‘Kitten Shimmer’ and have mentioned it a couple of times in previous posts (here and here if you’re curious). As I’ve mentioned, this stuff looks intense in the bottle, but the shimmer is so fine and the formula is so perfect that it blends flawlessly and leaves the skin looking naturally radiatant. I especially love mixing this with my moisturizer for an even, all over glow.

To help eliminate shine and help my make up stay in place and not slide around in the heat, Urban Decay De-Slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray is a holy grail product for me. Even on the hottest day, I could confidently go outside with a face full of makeup and not worry about it melting thanks to this stuff. It controls any oil, minimizes surface shine and keeps your makeup locked in place all day long. It also feels so refreshing when sprayed on the skin and the mist is super fine and sprays evenly. Just make sure you hold it the recommended 8-10 inches away, as if you spray it too closely the pressure can separate your makeup, which isn’t pretty (trust me I’ve learned).

I tend to reach for bronzer most days during the Summer, as since I wear SPF on my face everyday, my face ends up being such paler compared to the rest of my body. To even things out The Body Shop Honey Bronze Bronzing Powder is the perfect natural bronzer, as it has no shimmer and an awesome range of shades for even the palest babes. This mattifying bronzer feels weightless on the skin, blends well and it’s really no surprise how much it is raved about in the beauty world.

If you saw my 10 Items for the Spring & Summer post, then you will know that the NARS Satin Lip Pencil in ‘Lodhi’ has been high on my list to try. I have wanted it for ages and finally treated myself to it. This shade is right in between a coral and salmon shade aka my perfect summer lip colour. I love coral shades, and I think they look better on me than pinks and reds. These satin lip pencils wear beautifully and the formula of these are so creamy and easy to wear. This is definitely my new go-to lip colour and I couldn’t be happier.

I can’t commit to a nail polish when it comes to on my hands, but when it comes to feet, I usually stick with one (maybe two) colours all Summer long. This Summer’s toe polish is definitely Essie’s ‘Haute in the Heat’ which is described as a ‘hot guava’ shade. It’s one of those shades that looks either more pink or more red depending on the lighting. To me that means I get the best of both worlds as I strictly only wear pinks or reds on my toes. This one is so vibrant and I absolutely love it.

I’m lazy when it comes to my hair all year round, but especially in the Summer I cannot be bothered to heat style it or dedicate too much time to it. I have finally mastered the fishtail braid, so that will definitely be my go-to hairstyle this Summer, but to give it that gritty, beachy texture I’ll be spritzing my hair with the Bumble and bumble Surf Spray. Sea salt sprays are great for giving your hair amazing texture and volume and to enhance/create effortless waves. Yes, they can be drying, but I have a homemade hair mask that is incredible for replenishing and strengthening your hair.

This Bath & Body Works Sea Island Cotton Eau de Toilette is one of my favourite Summer scents and it has been hibernating all year until now. I think this is a love it or hate it scent. It smells like fresh laundry that’s been hung outside to dry, and is blown by a salty breeze from the sea. To me it is just Summer in a bottle. Unfortunately, I can’t find the perfume on the website (yet another discontinued product to add to the list?) but they still sell this scent in the lotions and body spray.

The Urban Decay De-Slick is so amazing! My skin used to be really oily and this was the only thing that made my makeup last longer than a few hours.

I just bought the Body Shop honey bronzer and I’m already obsessed! It gives such a gorgeous color to the skin, and I love the finish of it!

Thanks for sharing lovely! x Krista
