New York City | What’s in my Travel Makeup Bag?

IMG_6023I’m leaving for New York tomorrow (insert high pitched squeal), so I thought it’d be fun to show you what I’m bringing with me on the makeup side of things. Personally, I love packing for trips as not only do I get to make a million lists, but I also get to bring out all my miniatures I have had stashed away for traveling. Most of the minis shown are either from ipsy, a gift with purchase or from the Sephora aisle of doom. I think I was successful in packing just the essentials, with a few options in regards to eyeliner and lip products. I know I will use all these products during my trip and can easily take a look from day to night with the products shown.

If you want to see what I’m taking with me to New York, carry on reading!

(My makeup bag was a gift with purchase from Clinique)

For primer I’m taking my Benefit the POREfessional, as I have had this mini for awhile and it needs to be used up. This primer is an excellent base for makeup and I know when I use it my makeup won’t be budging all day. I am not bothering with foundation for this trip and instead am going with two concealers. The first is a repurchase—Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer in ‘Fair/Light’—as it is amazing for under the eye area, blends seamlessly and stays put. I’m also taking my It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Anti-Aging Concealer in ‘Neutral Medium’ as it is super high coverage, making it perfect for any pesky blemishes and I also like applying this around my nose. And since it’s so teeny tiny, it literally takes up no space. I’m testing out a new pressed powder this trip, which is the Physicians Formula Organic Wear Pressed Powder in ‘Translucent Fair’ and I’m really hoping it does the job, as I usually like Physicians Formula powders. I’m also taking my NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder as it gives your skin the prettiest glow and especially looks good in photographs. It also has a large mirror which is great. For blush and bronzer, NARS ‘Orgasm’ and ‘Laguna’ Duo is perfect because they are both extremely pigmented and the compact itself is mini and perfect for traveling. I’m also taking my mini of the Benefit Watt’s Up!, which is one of my favourite cream highlighters. And last, but not least, Urban Decay De-Slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray is an essential for me with the warmer weather, as it rids my face of any excess oil, and paired with my Benefit primer, I know my makeup will last all day long.

Eyes & Brows

For my eyelids I am bringing my much loved MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in ‘Painterly’. This is the perfect neutral cream eye base and I love it worn alone or as a primer for eyeshadow. Palettes are much more convenient than a bunch of single eyeshadows and I almost always ends up taking my Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette when I am traveling, as I get use out of every shade in it. I also combine ‘Naked 2′ and Faint’ from the palette to fill in my brows and ‘Venus’ is the perfect highlight for the inner corner and brow bone. To keep my brows in place all day I know my Milani Brow Shaping Clear Gel won’t let me down. For eyeliner, I have my Coastal Scents Liquid Eyeliner in ‘Jet’ if I decide to go with a cat eye, otherwise, I’ll go with my Sephora Nano Eyeliner in ‘Coffee’ smudged along my upper and lower lash line. And of course, I have to have my Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in ‘Nude’ which I apply along my waterline to counteract the redness around my eyes and help me look more awake (this stuff is such a lifesaver). For my mascara I have a mini of an old favourite—Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara—which I love because it’s build able and does not smudge or flake.

Somehow I managed to narrow my lip options to three: a lip balm, lip liner and lipstick. To be honest, I’ll probably chuck in another lip product for good measure. The lip products I am for sure taking with me include my MALIN + GOETZ Mojito Lip Balm which is—seriously—the bomb dot com. My lips get really dry and chapped and that is nonexistent when I use this product. It’s perfect during the day as it gives your lips a really pretty (and non-sticky) sheen and is also great to apply before bed. I also like wearing a little of this under the Rimmel Exaggerate Automatic Lip Liner in ‘Eastend Snob’ which is a pinky nude shade that compliments my lips really well and looks perfect worn by itself. Another pinky nude option has to be my NARS Lipstick in ‘Dolce Vita’ because well, it’s my favourite and it’s a no-brainer lip choice.

And since my brushes are also in my travel makeup bag, I figured I would also list what brushes and tools I’m taking:

Real Techniques Buffing Brush

Real Techniques Contour Brush

Real Techniques Brow-Lash Groomer

Crown Brush Infinity Shadow/Crease Duet Brush

EcoTools Angled Eyeliner Brush (to fill in my brows)

EcoTools Tapered Blush Brush

EcoTools Large Powder Brush

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

Tarte Eyelash Curler

I’m so excited to (finally) be visiting the Big Apple and not the one in Colborne, Ontario (really hope an Ontarian gets this joke). Do you have any last minute recommendations for New York? Let me know below!
