I think after January, April is my second least favourite month. I mean, I am excited that it means warmer weather is upon us, but Canadian Springs have a tendency to suck. We get teased with some absolutely gorgeous, warm weather one day and then it’ll be torrential downpour the next. And then the next day (today for example) is absolutely freezing and windy. Not to mention, we still get a bit of flurries here and there. Add final exams to the mix and you’ve got one frustrating, stressful month. Luckily, ipsy always manages to cheer me up. And Game of Thrones is back. I think I’ll be okay.
If you missed my March Glam Bag post you can check it out here. Just a quick rundown of how it works: ipsy is a monthly subscription where they send you five items which can be anything from makeup and skincare to bath and body. The products change each month to reflect that month’s theme. The Glam bag costs $10 a month (plus $4.95 to ship to Canada) and you can cancel your subscription at any time. When you sign up you take their beauty quiz, which allows them to know your complexion, eye colour, hair, etc and brands and products you like, so they can tailor each product to you. You can also earn ipsyPoints to redeem for extra products. The theme this month is ‘Beautifully Bohemian’, which is definitely my style. Think easy to wear, fuss-free products, that enhance your natural beauty. The bag is a colourful weaved bag and is a bit bigger than the usual bags, which is perfect. I also love the quote on the back of the card: “She is just some wild thing. Let her laugh, live, love and roam free on her own terms, and she us sure to come back to you.”
This month’s products:
Mally Beauty is makeup artist Mally Roncal’s line, which she founded 9 years ago. Having worked on famous faces including Beyoncé, Angelina Jolie and Heidi Klum, she knows a thing or two about makeup and beauty. She created this line with the working woman in mind, wanting to produce high-performance products that are ‘bullerproof’, meaning that they last all day and need no touch ups. This is the first product I have tried by Mally Beauty and I have to say I am pretty impressed. The formula is really creamy, so it easily glides on the eye without tugging and once applied it did not budge at all. I can’t vouch if it really is waterproof, but it does have great staying power. I wasn’t sure about the shimmer, but it is very subtle making it easy to wear for everyday and I actually really quite like it. This eyeliner comes in a bunch of different colours and retails for $15.00. Mally also states her products are tested on celebrities and not animals.
I have wanted to try something from theBalm for ages (specifically the Mary-Lou Manizer), so I was excited to get this eyeshadow to try (Canadians, if you’re not aware, some Rexalls carry theBalm Cosmetics). This is one of their shades from their new Nude Dude Eyeshadow Palette—which is pretty much the most amazing palette ever and I don’t think you understand how much I need it in my life. I love theBalm’s quirky packaging, as it never disappoints. And neither does this eyeshadow. ‘Fit’ is a gorgeous shimmery copper that is triple-milled and super pigmented. I have no complaints. All their products are paraben and cruelty-free and the palette retails for $32.00 online.
I love this product. I love the ethereal-like packaging, I love the product itself, I love the smell, I love that the lid comes off without any difficulty (I’m looking at you Rosebud Salve) and I love the company’s philosophy. The vision behind Mullein & Sparrow, is based on the principles of Ayurveda, an ancient Indian system of traditional medicine, which the founder, Anit Hora, grew up on. She believes that ‘true beauty naturally arises from simple acts of regular self-care’. All her products are 100% natural, plant-based and cruelty-free. This vegan lip and cheek tint contains only 9 organic ingredients and feels so lovely on the lips. It has a more oily/balmy texture, which I love, and is not sticky at all. It gives the lips a natural sheen and it also smells like chocolate raspberry. I was skeptical about applying this to my cheeks, but it actually gives them a really natural flush of colour—however—I’ll probably stick with this as just a lip balm. The mini size (which I think is what I received) retails for $10.00 and they also do a much larger size for $22.00.
I love argan oil (my MacBook keeps autocorrecting ‘argan oil’ to ‘organ oil’ and it’s super annoying) for my hair, so I was excited to give this fancy hair serum a go. This claims to restore moisture and shine, strengthen hair and protect it from heat styling and environmental stress. Along with Moroccan Argan Oil this product also contains Bitter Orange Flower Extract. This serum smells amazing and you only need the smallest amount of product. I applied this to the ends of my damp hair and let it air dry and it seemed to do the job in regards to smoothing my ends and eliminating frizz. The full size of this retails for $42.00 and to be honest, I can get 100% pure argan oil for a lot cheaper.
Hikari Cosmetics is a newer company that offers affordable makeup for women in the United States. I say ‘United States’ because they do not ship to anywhere else right now, so hopefully I don’t get too attached to this blush, as I won’t be able to repurchase it haha. ‘Tango’ is a matte pink coral, which is perfect for the warmer months. This blush is extremely pigmented, so you only need very little product. I love how easily this blush blends into the skin and I feel like this shade really compliments my skin tone well. As a blush fiend, I was thrilled to receive the full size of this product and I feel like it will last me forever. Their blush comes in 7 shades and retails for $15.00 each. Hikari Cosmetics also states that they do not test on animals.
