Ipsy Glam Bag | March 2015

IMG_5503We have finally made it to March! The snow is (slowly) melting and we have been spoiled the last week or so with weather in the (low) pluses. The first day of spring is here this week and ipsy has already got me pumped for it with this month’s Glam bag. Seriously, I think this is my favourite glam bag I have received since I joined in October (and none of my Glam bags have disappointed me).

Before I elaborate on these fantastic products let me say the usual spiel:

If you missed my February Glam Bag post you can check it out here (I have a little rant at the beginning, which I think is worth reading). Just a quick rundown of how it works: ipsy is a monthly subscription where they send you five items which can be anything from makeup and skincare to bath and body. The products change each month to reflect that month’s theme. The Glam bag costs $10 a month (plus $4.95 to ship to Canada) and you can cancel your subscription at any time.

When you sign up you take their beauty quiz, which allows them to know your complexion, eye colour, hair, etc and brands and products you like, so they can tailor each product to you. You can also earn ipsyPoints to redeem for extra products. The theme this month is ‘Floral Fantasy’, offering products in ‘vivid shades and inviting textures’. I absolutely adore the bag, from the spring appropriate floral pattern to the colour combination—this bag will definitely be getting a lot of use from me.

L to R – Chella highlighter, Pixi Duo and NYX lipstick

My products for March include:

Pixi by Petra Mesmerizing Mineral Duo in ‘Apricot Glow’

Pixi is a brand I am becoming more and more intrigued by as, though I have only tried a few products from them, they all have really impressed me. I love the fairy dust eyeshadow I got in my December Glam Bag, but the packaging makes it a little awkward to use. So, I was thrilled to get this pressed eyeshadow duo to try. First off the colours are absolutely gorgeous. They are super pigmented with just the right amount of shimmer. The apricot shade reminds me of a summer tan which leaves me antsy for warm weather. They were easy to blend and with an eye primer lasted all day. This eyeshadow duo was made exclusively for ipsy, but I am assuming it is from their Mesmerizing Mineral Palette in ‘Copper Beach’. The palette retails for around $23.00.

NYX Cosmetics Butter Lipstick in ‘Pops’

This is a great ‘beginner’ lipstick as it is inexpensive ($6.00) and does not feel like a lipstick at all; more like a lip balm/lipgloss hybrid that is not sticky. This shade is a gorgeous mauve, which applies much more pink, and is incredibly easy to wear for everyday. I definitely agree with the high colour pigmentation, so keep that in mind when you apply it, especially if you just want a sheer wash of colour. The lipstick applies evenly and smoothly and is non-drying, leaving your lips feeling hydrated. It did not bleed and had decent staying power without the help of a lip liner. NYX is a cruelty-free brand and with 22 shades available there is something for everyone.

Chella Ivory Lace Highlighter

This is a new brand for me, and I was a little skeptical with the shade, as it looked like a concealer stick. Nonetheless, I went in with an open mind, as I love highlighters, and I am won over. Chella is a brand that focuses on skincare, as well as brows and lashes. This shade is perfect for me for achieving a natural highlight as it does not contain any shimmer and is close to my skin tone. It is a multi-purpose stick and can be applied anywhere from the brow and cheek bone, the Cupid’s bow and nose, as well as along the water line (did not last here for me) and the inner corners of the eyes to help brighten and open them up. The product is super creamy meaning it does not tug at the skin at all when applied and blends in easily. The full size retails for $18.00, and I am not sure if this is the full size or not. They also come in 3 other shades to compliment all skin tones. The only negative thing I would say is that the larger pencil size means I have to buy a specific sharpener for it.

Acure Organics Day Cream

The ipsy Gods have finally answered my prayers. I have been happy with the skincare products I have tried by ipsy, but all of them have been out of my price range. Then Acure Organics came along. This brand offers high performance products for wallet friendly prices and do not contain any nasty ingredients (check out their ingredients to avoid page here). Oh, and they are also vegan and cruelty-free. This brands 2 showstopper ingredients are stem cells and chlorella, the first helping your skin to fight environmental damage and free radicals, while the latter supports collagen and elastin fibres. This day cream uses gotu kola stem cells (a rejuvenative nervine) and contains 1% chlorella growth factor (CGF) which boosts collagen production by an insane amount. To read more about stem cells and CGF, check out their ingredients page here. The combination makes a great team to fight the signs of aging. The day cream absorbs well into the skin and does not leave my face feeling greasy and I have no complaints so far. It has a slightly spicy orange scent, so if you like the Origins GinZing moisturizer, you would probably like this as well. This day cream retails for $18.99 for 1.75 oz. (the sample I received is 1 oz.) and I will 100% be trying more from this brand.

skyn ICELAND Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels

Another new brand for me and the only product I have yet to try, as I specifically have these stashed away for when I travel. Having been severely ill with chronic stress, the brands founder, Sarah, was inspired by the calm and serene environment of Iceland. To read more about Sarah’s story click here (it is pretty inspiring). Skyn ICELAND strives on treating the damage caused by stress on the skin. They do not test on animals, are completely vegan (says on their website, but the eye gels say vegetarian, so not entirely sure) and free of parabens, petroleum, mineral oil, sulphites, phthalates, synthetic fragrance and dye. These eye gels claim to firm and de-puff within 10 minutes thanks to their Icelandic Complex. This complex contains pure Icelandic glacial water, which contains 6 essential minerals, as well as Arctic cloudberry and cranberry seed oil (source of omega fatty acids, vitamins and also an antioxidant). They sound promising, so I am really hoping these live up to their claim. It costs $30.00 for 8 pairs and I received 2 pairs to try out.

I am so impressed with this month’s Glam bag; from the spot on products, the adorable bag and the fast delivery—thanks ipsy!

  1. I got the mineral duo too this month and I love it! I rarely use eyeshadow but it’s subtle enough that I enjoy using it for a little added brightness to my eyes. I was impressed with my bag this month too, I just wish I got a darker or subtler colour lipstick. Bright pink is not my kind of colour haha

    1. Did you get ‘Little Susie’? I actually think that shade would look great on you! If you want it more subtle try applying just a little to the centre of your lip and blending it out with your finger!

  2. I received Pops as well and I am loving it so much – it’s been the only thing on my lips these past two days! And I was lucky enough to get the eye gels as well – I haven’t tried them yet but I can only imagine how heavenly they’ll feel after my spring allergies start acting up! I think your idea of using them after travel is perfect! Great review!
