I love dedicating one evening a week to give myself a little TLC. I usually do this on a Sunday as a way to unwind from a (usually) long week and to leave me feeling in a better state of mind for the upcoming week. This is a great way to de-stress, relax and disconnect from the world for a few hours. I also always sleep much better after this. I thought I would share what I do during a pamper evening and what products I have been using! First things first, I run a bath. I’m definitely more of a shower person, but if I want to unwind and relax after a long day/week, I love running a hot bath. Whilst the bath is running I’ll wash my face then follow up with a face mask. The one I’ve been using on a weekly basis is the Amie Spring Clean Cleansing Mask which is great for getting rid of any blemishes or impurities, as well as combating oiliness. It contains organic peppermint which leaves my skin feeling so refreshed. Peppermint can be irritating so if you have dry skin then this probably isn’t the mask for you. I apply this all over my face avoiding my eye area and nose (my drier areas). I then let it sit on my face for about 10-15 mins before removing it with a warm facecloth. Always before I get in the bath or shower I dry brush my skin, which I’ve been doing for years, as it is a great way to detoxify. I may do a blogpost down the road about dry skin brushing, but until then this is a great article that talks about it if you’re curious.
I always add something to the bath, whether it’s a bath bomb of some sorts, bath salts, an oil or a combination of these things. This bergamot star bath bomb is by a local company called Love Simply Made. It makes the bath water a milky colour, smells great and leaves my skin feeling soft. These products are all handmade and free of parabens, phthalates and SLS. Everything is also incredibly affordable and I definitely want to try more by this company. I also always light a candle. This one is the Illume Balsam & Cedar Candle. I had the small size of this and loved it so much, that I also snatched up the medium size when it went on sale. It smells like a Christmas tree and burns really well. In the bath I’ve really been enjoying the Wild Argan Oil Massage Soap from The Body Shop. It’s great for massaging sore muscles and it lathers up really well. The Wild Argan Oil line also smells incredible.
Out of the bath I like to sometimes slather on an oil over a lotion, as it feels much more luxurious and leaves my skin feeling extra soft. I’ve recently started using the Aura Cacia Sesame Skin Care Oil after reading about all the amazing health benefits of it (it is a potent antioxidant and is praised for its healing properties). It also absorbs fairly quickly into the skin which is great for an oil.
Gotta show the feet some love! I’ve been using this pumice stone by EcoTools to exfoliate my feet, before moisturizing with the Hemp Foot Protector from The Body Shop, which is extremely moisturizing. Chuck on a pair of fuzzy socks and my feet are pretty happy.
I’ll then paint my nails since I have the time and am not rushed. This Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream by Burt’s Bees is some seriously good stuff. This is just the travel-size and it has lasted me ages. If you have dry cuticles and nails I would definitely recommend trying it (lemon butter is NOT acidic, so it will not irritate dry, broken skin). It’s all natural and whenever my nails are getting brittle this saves them. I’m trying to get into the habit of applying a base coat and the one I’ve been using is the Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Nail Hardener. Good, but nothing ground-breaking. If you saw this blogpost then you know I’ve been slightly obsessed with Maybelline Color Show Nail Lacquer in ‘Pink Cosmo’. I wore this polish exclusively for well over a month, but have since switched to other polishes as I am trying to savour this one (it was limited-edition). And of course, my Seche Vite Dry Fast Topcoat, which is a must for anyone like myself who is extremely impatient waiting for their nails to dry.
Before I head downstairs, I’ll apply my night cream and the one I have been using is the Origins High Potency Nit-A-Mins. My skin has been loving this stuff and I have noticed such a difference in my complexion. My skin looks much less dull since using this cream. Once I am feeling all pampered and relaxed, I’ll make a cup of herbal tea before curling up on the couch with a book or watch a show/film. I’m taking a Classics course this semester and though all the terms and dates are proving quite difficult to remember, I am thoroughly enjoying my readings for it. I can’t believe I am just finally reading Homer’s Odyssey (better late than never though, right?).

When it’s finally time to call it a night, I apply a hand cream and a lip balm. These are both by Nova Scotia Fisherman and are handmade products infused with Nova Scotia sea kelp. I love how moisturising both of these products are and I also enjoy the natural, earthy scent. I particularly love the lip balm, however I wish they would repackage it as it is very awkward to use.
Then it is time to cozy up in bed and drift off into slumber (after spending an excessive amount of time scrolling through social media and Wikipedia-ing the most random of things).
