Ipsy Glam Bag | February 2015

IMG_5330Okay, first thing first, I need to address something. I am slightly annoyed with all the comments on ipsy‘s website and Instagram with people constantly complaining about their glam bag or how they’re this close to unsubscribing and/or switching to another subscription box.

So, here’s some friendly tips:

1. Retake your beauty quiz! I retook mine last month because I kept getting eyeliners. I don’t wear eyeliner regularly, so I have enough to last me awhile. So, I simply retook the quiz and unselected ‘eyeliner’. And guess what? No eyeliner this month!

2. Review your products every month on ipsy! This is a great way for ipsy to get feedback on what you thought of these brands and products. If you really did not like a specific product then in the review let them know that this product did not work for you. This is a much better option than flooding their comment section with your complaints. Didn’t like any of the products you received? Then you probably need to get off your high horse.

3. Upset because your bag is late/mangled/missing? Understandable, but that is not necessarily ipsy’s fault. They ship all their bags out around the same time and they have an estimated—let me repeat that—an estimated, delivery time for the middle of the month. Just because your bag has not arrived by February 14th does not mean you need to start worrying that it is lost. I have been lucky and have received my bag around the same time every month so far. Yes, the one time my bag came pretty mangled, but I blame the deliverer, not ipsy. One time my birthday card and money from my grandma got lost (stolen) in the mail and I didn’t call my grandma and start bitching at her.

4. Truly unhappy with your ipsy subscription? Unsubscribe! That is what is great about ipsy is that you aren’t locked into a yearlong subscription or anything and can unsubscribe whenever you choose!

People constantly want to focus on the negative things and it is draining. Peace and love people! February is the month of LOVE after all!

Whew, glad that’s finally off my chest. Apologies for the rant. Let’s get this post back to being positive.

IMG_5333IMG_5336 If you missed my January Glam Bag post you can check it out here. Just a quick rundown of how it works: ipsy is a monthly subscription where they send you five items which can be anything from makeup and skincare to bath and body. The products change each month to reflect that month’s theme. The Glam bag costs $10 a month (plus $4.95 to ship to Canada) and you can cancel your subscription at any time.

When you sign up you take their beauty quiz, which allows them to know your complexion, eye colour, hair, etc and brands you like, so they can tailor each product to you. You can also earn ipsyPoints to redeem for extra products. The theme this month is #ipsylove, focusing on products in lovely pink and red shades and products that show some love to your skin and hair. All tucked inside an extremely cute, pink patterned bag.

City Color Cosmetics Creamy Lip Stain in ‘Flirtini’

To be honest my first thought with this product is that it looked like a cheap, dollar store lip product. Never judge a book by it’s cover though, right? This creamy lip stain is actually a gorgeous shade. It is a much more dusty pink shade than how it appears online. It is very thick, so you just need a little bit and once applied it has this creamy, almost oily, texture on the lips; kinda weird, but kinda nice. However, after a few hours of wearing this my lips felt incredibly dry. I would definitely recommend applying a hydrating lip balm underneath. This product retails for $4.99 and is cruelty-free.

ModelCo Blush Cheek Powder in ‘Cosmopolitan’

I have not heard of this Australian brand before, but I am very happy ipsy has introduced us. I am a sucker for blushes and I was shocked how pigmented this blush is. You just need the tiniest amount to give your cheeks a healthy flush of colour. It blends extremely well and lasted all night on my skin. I am not sure if this blush is the full size, but it retails for $22.00 and ModelCo is also cruelty-free. I definitely want to try more products from this brand.

Mitchell and Peach Fine Radiance Face Oil

Normally, I would flee from a face oil, but since my skin has been loving more hydrating products lately I have been wanting to give an oil a go. This is a new brand for me, but after looking at their website I am super intrigued. Mitchell and Peach is a family business from Kent, England who grow all their ingredients on their estate. You can read more about their story here. This oil is packed with antioxidants and vitamins such as apricot kernel oil, coconut oil and wheat germ oil. The main star in this product is cobnut, which I had never heard of before. Part of the hazelnut family, cobnuts grow in England, mainly Kent, and are packed with vitamin E and B. This product also smells incredible thanks to their Flora No.1 fragrance which is a blend of rose, lavender and ylang-ylang. I mixed a few drops with my serum before bed and my skin felt so soft and healthy in the morning. I found the scent incredibly relaxing and it helped me to fall asleep at night. The full size retails for almost $60 (yikes) for 20 ml, so this is definitely an investment.

Eva NYC Up All Night Volumizing Spray

I have seen this brand at Urban Outfitters and have been wanting to try it. I have fine, flat hair, so any product with the word ‘volumizing’ in it has my attention. Like many other people, this product unfortunately leaked a bit on its way in the mail. However, unlike many other people, I actually was not blown away by this product. It smells amazing, like it could be a perfume. I think this product is better suited for shorter hair, as I did not notice much difference in regards to volume with my long hair. I am still going to test this product out and I do like it as a heat protectant. The full size retails for $24.00 for 8 oz.

Luxie Beauty Large Angled Face Brush

This actually wasn’t one of the items I received. I got the Emite Make Up Professional Eyelash Curler, but I already have an eyelash curler that I love and I definitely didn’t need another. I really wanted this brush and my friend actually got it, but she didn’t need it, so we did a good ‘ol swap. Thanks Amanda! I absolutely love this brush. It is so soft and I adore the pink and rose gold colour. This brush is synthetic, 100% vegan and the bristles are anti-bacterial coated. I used it with my translucent powder to set my makeup and it worked fantastic, especially around the eye area. It also had no fall out. This brush retails for $16.00 and is actually on for half price right now! I highly recommend this brush and will definitely be purchasing more brushes from Luxie.

My ipsy glam bag review 🙂 and I’m with you with the people always complaining about the products that they get! This months bag was worth way more than just $10! I think people forget that ipsy is to try NEW things and discover different brands and products that maybe they wouldn’t have on their own!
