Christmas is long and gone and it has now gotten to that point where I am over winter and ready for sun. As I type this the temperature is currently -14, high winds and snow. So, as I’m cozied up indoors with a cup of tea and dreaming of when I can put my parka in storage until next winter, I figured today would be a good day to share some things I’ve been loving during the winter months!
These items have been making this weather (a bit) more tolerable for me:
If you do not own a pair of these mitts, you need to do yourself a favour and grab a pair of them, stat. These fleece-lined mitts are the coziest mittens I have ever worn! Even if I am outside in minus -20 weather, I can guarantee my hands are sweating in them. They are extremely affordable at $12 (on sale right now for $9.99) and are the only mitts I have been wearing for the last 3 or so years. I own 5 pairs now, but have been wearing these brown patterned ones the most. I got these ones a couple of years ago and I think they were a bit more expensive, but I can’t remember. These mitts come in so many different colours though, and you definitely need a pair in your life. Your hands will thank you!
Along with my winter uniform of boots, fleece-lined leggings, parka and Talula mittens, has been knit headbands. They never fail to look like I made an effort to look (somewhat) cute, when really I haven’t washed my hair in 3 days and I’m just hoping no one can notice. They keep my ears warm and my hair off my face and this floral patterned one contains my favourite colour pairing; burgundy and tan. I got this one from H&M and even though it’s not on their website, I’m pretty sure I saw them on sale in-store not too long ago. I sprits the inside of the headband with a bit of hairspray so it stays in place and doesn’t slide off and it hasn’t let me down all winter!
If you saw my last post then you will know that I recently went to Stanley Kubrick: The Exhibition at TIFF Bell Lightbox. In preparation for the exhibit I had been spending my free time watching/re-watching all of Kubrick’s films. His work is so good and I just get sucked right into his films (I could probably watch Spartacus every week and never tire of it). I’ve since taken a break from Kubrick to finish the last season of Sons of Anarchy, but I still have Barry Lyndon and Dr. Strangelove to watch, so I will be saving them for a cozy night in.
Leading up to Christmas I was wearing strictly reds and glitters, but so far for 2015 this is the only nail polish I have been wearing. This shimmery, almost metallic champagne shade is so unique and I cannot stop wearing it. I love the pink undertones in it that show in the light. What I particularly love most about this polish is the fact that it isn’t noticeable when it starts to chip, which is perfect for the busy (lazy) student that I am. Unfortunately, this was a limited-edition nail polish that I got ages ago. I’m almost through the bottle so I will be on the hunt for a similar colour soon. If anyone knows of a good dupe for this colour please let me know!
I’ve always been wary about applying thicker creams to my combination skin, but since my skin has been particularly dehydrated and dull for the last few months, I decided to finally give this baby a go. Holy smokes. My skin drinks this stuff up overnight and I wake up with my skin feeling so refreshed and quenched. My complexion has cleared up and evened out since using this night cream and I am honestly blown away with the results. This night cream contains time-relaeased resurfacers, minerals, mositure-rich replenishers and vitamins C, E and H (also known as Biotin aka a beauty vitamin). It is also free of parabens, sulfates and phthalates. It has a faint smell of oranges that reminds me of the Origins GinZing line, but is overall much more earthy smelling. The drawback? This cream costs $51.00 for 1.7 oz and is sadly way out of my budget (I got this 1 oz size in a Sephora 500 point perk set). If you can afford this face cream or are able to get a sample of it I would highly recommend trying it. This is some seriously good stuff and I am going to be so sad when I finish this jar.
I got this product in my very first ipsy bag in October and have been loving it ever since. The creamy consistency of this product blends seamlessly into the skin and the pink in it makes it look incredibly natural. I just apply this to my cheekbones with my finger and it gives my skin that healthy glow that it needs during the colder months. My makeup has been very minimal this month, but I’ve constantly been reaching for this product, as applying it just makes my skin look 10x more dewy and healthy. This product contains natural pearl essence, is non-drying and won’t settle into fine lines and wrinkles.
What’s been saving your skin, hair, sanity, life this winter?
